American Program-Welcome
At Gathering Club, we provide several activities to promote socialization and growth within each person we serve. We encourage community involvement by going out to the movies, bowling, museums, shopping, etc. When the weather permits, participants also enjoy trips to the park to get fresh or to just play some ball.
All Gathering Club Programs promote culture diversity by including education on different cultures throughout the world. Along with including traditions and holidays celebrated around the world. Cooking classes include shopping and preparing dishes from other cultures for a delicious learning experience.
Our team of professionals work with individuals of all abilities along with a wide range of different ages. Everyone is treated with respect and dignity. We work hard to build relationships with each person we support, no matter where they are in their life. Each month we have a celebration for any holidays, along with any birthdays that fall in that month. Gathering Club is inclusive and always a participatory event.
Gathering Club staff includes licensed nurses on site including community outings. Diversity is encouraged within the American Program and throughout the organization. Specifically designed activities help build confidence through group involvement. Individual growth activities also strengthen each individual on a personal level.
Each day looks different here. One day we may visit the park during nice weather to enjoy time outdoors, throw a football, walk, or play basketball. Another day we may stay in, do crafts, work puzzles, play cards, play bingo, or sing karaoke. Everyone in the program helps decide what our days will encompass. Once a month we plan a special outing. Our Kentuckiana community has many great places to explore including the Muhammad Ali Center, Louisville Slugger Museum, Huber’s Orchard, local ice cream shops, various movie theaters, and bowling alleys. No matter what we do, we have fun doing it.
Not everything is all play. We offer
- self-enrichment groups,
- skills groups,
- cooking groups, and
- cultural diversity groups.
When we do play, we like celebrating holidays and birthdays. These special days are always a favorite time. Each month we will celebrate a designated holiday along with everyone who is having a birthday that month. We celebrate everyone in the program and enjoy each other’s inclusion.

Michele joined the Gathering Club team in August 2020. With over fourteen years’ experience her previous positions include; Residential House Lead/House Manager, Residential Direct Support Professional, and Home Health Attendant. She has spent most of her career helping promote growth within the homes and out in the community in which she serves.
“What I do is my heart and soul work, though my job does not feel like work to me. I am blessed to spend my days full of laughter, smiles, and most of all love. I often have the chance to hear the stories of all the new things that have been learned since their loved ones joined our Gathering Club family”, comments Michele.
Her goal is to continue to expand the American Program to help serve those who still need a place to call home and belong.
